HOUSE BILL No. 5408: The Rizal Bill

On the initiative of CELYO RIZAL Inc., with Manila 2nd District Rep. Jaime C. Lopez as its principal author and Iloilo Rep. Raul Gonzales Jr. as principal sponsor, seeks to make June 19 of every year the National Hero’s birth anniversary, the Gat Dr. Jose P. Rizal National Holiday replacing Dec 30, the National Hero’s death anniversary.  

17 Dec 2008 – The bill was unanimously approved in Congress during its plenary session. 

17 Dec 2008 – Sent to the Senate under the Commission on Constitutional Amendments Revision of Codes and Laws originally chaired by Sen. Richard Gordon, now chaired by Sen. Francis Escudero. 

11 Feb 2009 – In a letter sent to CELYO RIZAL, Inc in its home base and head office in Calamba City, Sen. Escudero expresses full support for the bill.
